No Time For Love

Nov. 14 - Dec. 19

Separate Reality is pleased to present No Time For Love, an exhibition of paintings by Larysa Myers. Depicting idealized female nudes in states of transition, like dusk and dawn, the works explore femininity through sensual beauty and psychological ambiguity. Their obscured faces lend the figures an air of anonymity, as though they were fragments of a larger cinematic narrative. Through recurring motifs of shells, windows, curtains, and orchids, the paintings consider concealment and exposure, interior and exterior worlds, and the tension between protection and vulnerability.

Light plays a central role throughout the exhibition. In many paintings, the natural weave of the linen remains visible beneath layers of reflective paint, allowing the surfaces to respond to changing light and shift as the viewer moves around them. Golden sunlight, sheer curtains, turquoise seas, and exotic orchids evoke the atmosphere of a romantic film, creating scenes suspended between intimacy and artifice.

Yet beneath these seductive surfaces lies a contradiction. The figures remain psychologically elsewhere, their attention directed beyond the scene, never fully surrendering to the worlds they inhabit. No Time For Love considers femininity as something constructed through images and expectations, presenting the woman as an object of beauty and mystery while revealing the loneliness, desire, and ambiguity that exist beneath.

No Time For Love will be on view at Separate Reality, 111 Santa Barbara Street, Suite C, Santa Barbara, California, from November 14 through December 19, 2026. The gallery is open Friday and Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
